At its heart, this is an invitation to slow down and to ask more fundamental questions: Who is God? How do I relate to God? What does it mean to worship? What is true intimacy with the Beloved?
The course centres these questions through a distinctly female lens, grounded within the Sufi and Islamic tradition.
A key intention of this work is to uncover and tend to our relationship with our female spiritual lineage to revisit, remember, and reconnect with the women who have carried and transmitted this tradition. Through the lives, words, and presence of great female saints and sheikhas from across Islamic history, we will explore what it means to belong to this lineage and to recognise ourselves within it.
The course unfolds over the month of Ramadan as a shared, held space, with weekly gatherings. These sessions weave together teaching, poetry, meditation, writing, and practices of true listening. There is a strong emphasis on presence and somatic awareness, on attending to our lived, bodily experience of Ramadan, fasting, prayer, and daily life, and allowing that experience to become a site of remembrance.
Ultimately, this course is about returning to our roots within the tradition: remembering forms of devotion that are receptive, relational, and deeply grounded, and creating a space where women can encounter God, worship, and lineage in a way that feels intimate, rooted, and alive.
