Women of Sufism

An online container held by Medina Trevathan and India Rose.

This space is devoted to the questioning, deepening of and tending to - our relationship with the Beloved.

Through poetry, Sufi teachings and embodied inquiry, we bring our attention to the inner dimensions of worship, exploring the feminine way of experiencing, through the body and the heart.

This course is for all women.

About this Course

We will gather for four Wednesdays in May:

May 6th · May 13th · May 20th · May 27th

Time: 7 PM UK · 8 PM CET · 2 PM EST · 11 AM PST

Location: Zoom

Duration: 90 Minutes - 2 Hours

We will be invited to slow down, enter more deeply into our bodies and explore from there, some of our fundamental questions:

Who is Allah, God, The Beloved, The Divine?

How do we experience and relate to Allah, God, The Beloved, The Divine?

What does it mean to encounter The Divine through the body?

_

Our journey centres these questions through a distinctly feminine lens, grounded in the Sufi and Islamic tradition.

Together, we will uncover our relationship with the female Sufi lineage: through the lives, words and stories of great women Saints across Islamic history, we will explore what it means for us to belong in this collective, and equally come to recognise our own unique selves within it.

Across the month, our weekly gatherings will weave together experiential somatic practice, poetry, meditation, writing and practices of deep listening.

The holding of our process is the framework of inquiry being specifically of a somatic nature: we will be guided into deep presence, where access to detailed awareness of The Divine is a bodily, lived experience.

Ultimately, the nature of this way of experiencing ourselves and The Divine is a return to our roots within the tradition: remembering that our devotion is receptive, relational and deeply embodied.
This is a space where women can encounter God, worship and lineage in a way that feels grounded, intimate and alive.

O God,

Whenever I listen to the voice of anything You have made

The rustling of the trees the trickling of water

The cries of birds the flickering of shadow the roar of the wind

The song of the thunder, I hear it saying:

"God is One”

Nothing can be compared with God!

- Rabia al- Basri

"I bear witness that there is no deity but God, alone without peer. This is the witness of one who roamed in the deserts of singularity and drowned in the ocean of oneness. Then she turned her gaze from creation and witnessed the True Reality by means of the True Reality."
